There are five different credit or certificate options for you to choose from. Please review this information carefully. If you have questions of any kind, please visit the Learning Commons support forum or contact NWOET, the organization we have partnered with to provide quality assessment and credit options to participants of this course.

How do I get started?

This course is divided into 21 self-paced modules referred to as "Things". Thing 1 is open to the public and will give you a good overview of you can expect to gain through participation in this course. To continue with Things 2 - 21, you must complete the FREE registration to become a registered Learning Commons user. As a registered user you unlock Things 2-21 and gain access to collaborate with INFOhio and other Learning Commons participants.

If you want to earn individual module CEUs, a 21st Century Skills Certificate with a specialization in Media and Information Resources or college credit, you must enroll in the appropriate Learning Commons credit option PRIOR to completing any of the activites. The five options available are:

  • Option One: No cost / No CEU - Take the modules for your own learning. [details]
  • Option Two: No cost /CEU- Work with your local LPDC to arrange for professional development credit. [details]
  • Option Three: Cost / CEU- Earn INFOhio/NWOET certificate(s) of completion. [details]
  • Option Four: Cost / 21st Century Skills Certificate - Earn your 45-hour 21st Century Skills certificate with specialization in Media and Information Resources. [details]
  • Option Five: Cost / Graduate credit -Receive one (1) graduate credit from Bowling Green State University, Ashland University or Muskingum College. [details] 
Option One - No cost / No CEU NO COST

Complete all 21 modules at your own pace; simply become a registered Learning Commons member. Registration is completely free and will give you access to all 21 modules and the Learning Commons forum.

You can being your studies now by starting Thing 1. One task you will need to complete within Thing 1 is to become a registered Learning Commons member. You Can register now or you can start with Thing 1 and register later.

Option Two - No cost / CEU NO COST

Each module contains a learning path document that includes all the information your district LPDC should need to determine if this coursework may be used to earn CEUs at your institution.  Work with your LPDC to arrange for professional development credit.

This option requires you to be a registered Learning Commons member.  Member registration is completely free and will give you access to the Learning Commons forums and all 21 modules.

    Certificates of professional development recognizing two hours per module are available from NWOET, working in partnership with INFOhio, at a cost of $15.00 per module. Depending on the number of modules you plan to complete, you can take advantage of price breaks as shown in the table on the right.

    When completing a module for CEUs, a Learning Commons facilitator will review your work and award the CEUs if the module has been completed satisfactorily. 

    To earn CEUs, there are two general requirements.  First, you must be a learning commons member.  Membership is free and is discussed as part of Thing 1.  Second, you must enroll into the program with Option Three.

    To maintain the integrity of the 21 Essential Things for 21st Century Success program and to provide quality assessment of completed work, enrollment in Option Three is required BEFORE completing the tutorials.

    Payment instructions will be made when you enroll into this option.

    Option Four - Cost / 21st Century Skills Certificate FEE - $159

    Earn your 45-hour 21st Century Skills certificate with specialization in Media and Information Resources.  To earn your 21st Century Skills certificate, you must:

    • Become a registered Learning Commons member (FREE)
    • Enroll into Option Four (21st Century Skills Certificate)
    • Successfully complete 18 or more of the 21 available modules
    • Complete a 10-hour classroom-related project (details provided after enrollment)
    • Complete a brief pre/post survey. 

    A Learning Commons facilitator will review the work you do as required for the modules you choose to complete (18 or more).  To maintain the integrity of the Learning Commons 21st Century Learning program and to provide quality assessment of completed work, enrollment in Option Four is required BEFORE completing the tutorials.

    Once you have enrolled, you will be given additional information about the 10-hour classroom-related project.  After you have completed all of the required tutorials, you will submit a brief post survey.

    Option Five - Cost / Graduate credit FEE - $159 + College Registration Fee

    You may receive one (1) graduate credit from Bowling Green State University, Ashland University or Muskingum College for the work you complete in conjunction with your 21st Century Skills certificate (see Option Four above).

    To obtain your college credit, you must:

    • Become a registered Learning Commons member (FREE)
    • Enroll into Option Five (Graduate Credit)
    • Successfully complete 18 or more of the 21 available modules
    • Complete a 10-hour classroom-related project
    • Complete a brief pre/post survey

    The total cost of this option is $159 for the 21st Century Skills certificate PLUS the registration fee charged by the university with which you complete your classroom-related project. 

    Graduate Credit from Bowling Green State University ($387 in addition to $159 for 21st Century Skills Certificate)

    Course:  Classroom Technology Frameworks ($387)

    You will be charged the $387 for graduate credit through Bowling Green State University with payment due approximately May 5, 2009 to Bowling Green State University.  You may pay by check sent to NWOET 21st, NWOET, 245 Troup, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403.  Online payments options are also available, but you must first register by calling 800-966-9638.   

    Graduate Credit from Ashland ($199 in addition to $159 for 21st Century Skills Certificate)

    Course: 21st Century Classroom Tools of Learning ($199)

    You will be charged $199 upon registration. You may also register by calling NWOET at 800-966-9638.  Your credit card will be billed at the time of registration.

    You do not need to call Ashland University as your instructor will contact you after enrolling in Option Five.  Your instructor will verify and pre-approve your required 10-hour classroom-related project that you'll complete for your one (1) graduate credit.

    Graduate Credit from Muskingum College
